Martins R-670 Rat Cabin and R-640 Rat Carriage House

Dimensions:
R-670: 24"Hx14"Wx24"D
R-640: 18Hx11Wx16D

Comments:
First, we took the top off the R-670 and replaced it with a "middle floor" made from 1/2" vinyl-coated hardware cloth. Then we cut a 4"x4" opening in the middle floor and added a hardware cloth ramp. We used the extra rings that came with the R-670 to attach the new pieces to it--as anyone who's bought a Martin's cage knows, they send you enough to put the cage together several times over! Finally, we set the R-640 on top of the new middle floor and secured it with the springs that previously had secured it to the plastic drop-in pan. Voila, a comfy home for 3 big squishy boys! The towels and blankets are to protect the wallpaper from overzealous scent-marking.

Love Martin's cages, but hate that they do not make solid shelfs. All mine are covered with linoleum or carpet. Oh, and the flip top is a must!! Visit the Cabin

Comments:
This cage is great for one or two adult rats. The only disadvantage is that the door is too small for the Wobust Wodent Wheel to fit through, so I have to lift the cage out of the drop-in pan to take the wheel out for cleaning.

Rats Pictured:
You can't really see them, but Aohoku and Makulu are in the wooden hidey-house.

Comments:
This is the second revision of "Ratopia v1.1," done to facilitate the introduction of Nibbler. I'll be getting an R-695 after Christmas and stacking the 690's wire on top (assuming I get word that it won't collapse) to make the mega-cage I've been trying to get for them for some time. Squishy and Squee in particular love the fleece blanket that's folded up near the top--they use it as a sleep sack of sorts.

Rats Pictured:
Squishy (blue hooded) is crawling out of the blanket, Squee (beige hooded) is scratching herself on the second level, and Nibbler (hairless blue bareback) is just barely visible to the left and behind the blanket.

Comments:
The only thing I do not like about this cage is that there is a bottom level that cannot be reached through either of the three doors for cleaning, not bad 1 out of 7 levels LOL
